These release notes provide information for ATI's Windows Driver Model (WDM) versions 4.07 and 8.15.
Desktop product family support
The ATI WDM driver is a series of drivers used to enable the capture and TV tuner features on VIVO boards, and the ALL-IN-WONDER™ series of cards produced by ATI Technologies Inc.
The ATI WDM Driver Install bundle contains both the ATI WDM Driver 4.07 (6246) and 8.15 (6.14.10.6317). The setup program automatically detects the graphic adapter installed in your system and installs the appropriate ATI WDM components for the graphic adapter. The WDM version 8.15 (6.14.10.6317) will only install on:
The WDM version 4.07 is installed on the following: ATI products:
- All-In-Wonder™ 9600 Series
- All-In-Wonder™ 9800 Series
- All-In-Wonder™ 9700 Series
- All-In-Wonder™ X600 Series
- All-In-Wonder™ X800 Series
These products should use the WDM Driver Install Bundle available at: https://support.ati.com.
- Radeon® 9200 series or earlier All-In-Wonder™ products.
- ATI VIVO products

Recommended Installation order
ATI Technologies Inc. recommends the following installation order:
- 5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085.exe driver file.

Note: Do not restart Windows
- The recommended ATI Display Driver for your ATI graphic product.
- Restart Windows.
The recommended ATI Display Driver for your ATI graphic product may be installed prior to installation of the WDM driver 4.05. However, you may encounter an UNKNOWN DEVICES message during the NEW HARDWARE detection.
Driver Download Overview
There are two phases to the installation of a driver that has been downloaded from the ATI WEB site. The first phase occurs when you run the 5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085.exefile. This phase creates a temporary directory on the system disk and unpacks all the individual files that make up the ATI software bundle.
In the second phase the ATI SETUP program is launched from the temporary directory created in the first phase. ATI SETUP installs the software (from the temporary directory) into the operating system.
ATI WDM Installation Tips
You must download the 5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085.exe file, and save it to a temporary directory on your systems hard disk. For example C:\temp is a common directory used to initially save a file into. Once you have downloaded tv-capture-wdm-4-07-6246v3-5-01-6300.exe, follow these steps:
- Close all active programs
- Click the START button and select the RUN.
- Click the BROWSE button.
- Browse to the directory where 5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085.exefile is saved to.
- Select the 5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085.exefile and click OK to run to start the installation.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation
The individual files are unpacked and placed into a directory on your hard disk. The default path for this directory is C:\ATI\support\ tv-capture-wdm-6-14-10-6246\. After copying the files to the hard disk the INSTALLATION program will launch. At this time, You can choose to abort the INSTALL process if you wish. If you do abort the installation, no software will be installed.
Manual Installation instructions
- Click the START button and select the RUN.
- Click the BROWSE button.
- Browse to the directory where the files were unpacked after running the tv-capture-wdm-4-07-6246v3-5-01-6300.exe.

Note: The default directory is C:\ATI\support\tv-capture-wdm-4-07-6246v3-5-01-6300.
- Select SETUP.EXE and click OK.
- Follow the instructions displayed in the help to complete the installation.
Know Issues
This section provides information about known issues you may encounter when installing the WDM driver.
Unknown Device Message
If you install the recommended ATI Display Driver before installing the WDM driver, you may encounter an UNKNOWN DEVICE message when restarting your computer. If this occurs, follow these steps:
- Select CANCEL for all UNKNOWN DEVICES that are detected
- Install 5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085.exe
- Restart the computer
Missing File Message
During installation of the ATI WDM driver, you may encounter a message which indicates a driver file cannot be found. Typically this will occur after the system has been restarted and NEW HARDWARE is being detected. To work around this issue, follow these steps:
- BROWSE to the directory where the new drivers were unpacked. By default this directory will be C:\ATI\support\5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085
- Run Setup.exe
Version Conflicts
When installing Display Drivers or Software a Version Conflict message may appear multiple times during the installation.
If you encounter a Version Conflict message while installing this display driver select the NO option to proceed.

Note: Selecting NO ensures that the components of this driver bundle will replace your existing driver components. Selecting YES option results in a MIX of new and old driver components, which is not recommended.
Confirm File Replacement
When installing Display Drivers or Software a Confirm File Replace message may appear multiple times during the installation.
If you encounter a Confirm File Replace message while installing this display driver select the YES option to proceed.

Note: Selecting YES ensures that all the components of this driver bundle will replace your existing driver components.
TV Player Failed To Initialize Video, running ATI Multimedia Center
Some ATI display drivers will not recognize or function with the software contained in tv-capture-wdm-4-07-6246v3-5-01-6300.exe. If you experience problems with your TV or Capture application be sure to install the recommended ATI Display driver for your ATI graphic card.
If problems continue and you are using the recommended ATI display driver for your ATI graphic card, follow these steps:
For the ATI WDM version 8.15 (6.14.10.6317) the component list consists of:
- Go to the DEVICE MANAGER.
- Double-click the Sound, Video and game controller and ensure all the ATI WDM components listed below are present and functioning properly. For the ATI WDM version 4.07 (6246) the component list consists of:
Right click and select properties for each ATI WDM component and ensure that the properties state that This device is working properly. If any device is not working properly, follow these steps:
- Select and remove all of the ATI components shown under Sound, Video and game controller.
- Close the DEVICE MANAGER.
- DO NOT restart the system.
- Install 5-7_XP_2K_WDM_24085.exe
- Restart the system.

Note: DirectX 8.1 or DirectX 9 must be installed for Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium.
